Canada Celebrates Strong Showing at 2025 IWWF Pan American 35+ Waterski Championships
From October 1–5, 2025, 23 Canadian athletes competed at the IWWF Pan American 35+ Waterski Championships in Santa Rosa Beach, FL, hosted by Pickos Ski School. Team Canada captured a total of 14 individual medals and six team medals, earning 2nd place in the Overall Team competition.
Canadian athletes were strong across all age categories:
- 35+ Men’s Slalom: Derek Kirby earned silver with a score of 3@10.75m in the finals.
- 45+ Men’s Slalom: Robert Wink claimed bronze, running 2@11.25m in both prelims and finals.
- 55+ Women’s Slalom: Danielle Charest placed 3rd with 1@13m in prelims and finals, narrowly ahead of Carolyn Cheetham in 4th. Charest also earned bronze in 55+ Women’s Tricks with 2560 points.
- 55+ Men’s Slalom: Todd Johnson secured gold with 2@10.75m, while Mike Collombin was just off the podium with 2@11m.
- 55+ Men’s Overall: Mark Kirby earned bronze with scores of 3.5@13m, 290 points, and 12.3m.
- 65+ Women’s Slalom: Catherine Ryan placed 3rd with 2@13m.
- 65+ Men’s Slalom: David Bentall earned silver (3@10.75m) and Dave Phillips took bronze (4.5@11.25m).
- 65+ Men’s Jump: Richard Lufty finished 2nd with a jump of 16m.
- 65+ Men’s Overall: Scott Penry claimed silver with scores of 2@12m, 1100 points, and 20.2m.
- 70+ Men’s Slalom: Scott Marshall set a pending Canadian record with 4.5@12m, narrowly missing the podium.
- 70+ Men’s Trick: Pierre Plouffe took gold with 1850 points.
- 70+ Men’s Jump: Plouffe added silver with a 20m jump.
- 70+ Men’s Overall: Plouffe completed the event with another gold, scoring .5@14m, 2110 points, and 19.8m.
The event showcased the remarkable talent and dedication of Canada’s 35+ water ski athletes. Congratulations to all participants for their outstanding performances.
