Over 70 Riders Make Waves at 2025 Canadian Wakesurf & Foiling Nationals

The 2025 Canadian National Wakesurf & Foiling Nationals, presented by SWS Marine Group, were held in southeast British Columbia over the weekend.

“We were excited to welcome over 70 riders from as far west as Vancouver Island and as far east as Ontario competing over two days,” says one of the event organizers, Loree Duczek.  “New this year was the addition of a foiling division, and with bigger divisions and more athletes taking part, it is so good to see this event continuing to grow.”

The youngest rider was 5-year old Beckem Hantke of Lethbridge, Alberta who participated in the Junior Boys Division – one of 16 divisions run Saturday and Sunday.

Bailey Rush of Ponoka, Alberta took first in Pro Female Skim, with Lacombe, Alberta’s Morgan Bateman taking silver and Fernie, BC’s Caroline Villeneuve taking third.  Rush, a dominant dual rider who recently won the gold medal at the World Games in China, went on to take gold and the National Championship in Pro Women’s Surf. Bateman, another strong dual rider, took silver and Timmy McNamee of Perth, Ontario capturing bronze.

Cranbrook, BC’s Dagen Duczek took his second Pro Men’s Canadian Championship narrowly edging out his brother Ryder in a battle for first and second while their long-time mentor Isaac Hockley, also of Cranbrook, laid down a strong run to take the bronze medal.  Hockley and fellow rider Jake Lamb of Kelowna, BC entertained the crowd during their runs in the Foil Division, with both riders attempting backflips and big carving, pumping and airs.  In the end, Hockley edged past Lamb to take the gold.

“One of the special things about this event is the way it brings families and the surf community together.  It was so good to see so many families taking part.  From siblings in the same division, to siblings in different divisions and entire families competing, it speaks to the family nature of this sport. Beyond that, we had fans on shore and on the water cheering riders on, an amazing live performance from Lord Knows Band, giveaways, demo rides and all kinds of fun that added to the stoke of the weekend,” adds Duczek.  “None of this would have been possible without our incredible sponsors, including our title sponsor SWS Marine Group.  The entire weekend was amazing and we want to acknowledge all the sponsors, supporters, athletes, families, friends and fans that contributed to making the 2025 Nationals such a success.”
