WHAT DO WSWC DISCIPLINE COMMITTEES DO?
WSWC’s Discipline Committees are working committees made up of dedicated volunteers who actively support the management, development and growth of their respective sports across Canada.
Being part of a Discipline Committee is an active, hands-on role. Committee members are expected to contribute their time, knowledge and experience and to participate in the work required to move their discipline’s programs and priorities forward.
For each discipline, committees may be involved in:
- National Team and High Performance programs
• Domestic sport development and programming
• National Championships and other events
• Rules, policies, criteria, fees and competition schedules
• Coaching and athlete development
• Partnerships, sponsorship and fundraising
• Sport promotion and advocacy
• Strategic planning and the future direction of their discipline
Discipline Committees provide an important connection between each sport community and WSWC and give members an opportunity to have a direct voice — and an active role — in the development of their sport.

FAQs: Discipline Committees
Water Ski and Wakeboard Canada (WSWC) is the National Sport Organization responsible for the oversight of towed water sports in Canada. WSWC is a non-profit organization, recognized by both the Canadian Olympic Committee and Sport Canada as the Canadian Federation of the International Waterski and Wakeboard Federation.
Currently, there are five recognized disciplines in Canada: Adaptive, Barefoot, Water Ski, Show Ski, and Wake.
To support discipline-specific needs, WSWC’s Board is supported by five volunteer Discipline Committees (formerly known as Councils). WSWC works closely with the Provincial Sport Organizations.
Who do the Committees report to?
The WSWC Board. Each Discipline Committee is a committee of the WSWC Board. As they are not independent legal entities, they cannot contract or make financial commitments for WSWC.
What are the Discipline Committees?
Discipline Committees are groups of dedicated volunteers who support the management and growth of their respective sports.
What is the history of these committees?
- Early Development: Organized water skiing in Canada began in 1949, and WSWC filed its first Articles of Incorporation in August 1971. Over time, as new disciplines were added, the Board structure evolved, and discipline-specific councils were formed. Initially, these groups operated informally to manage rules, teams, events, Nationals, results, officials, and scoring.
- 2010 – 2015: Committees were given additional expectations, however no formal structure was in place.
- 2016 – 2019: WSWC recognized that a formal structure would be required. In 2018 a process to create Terms of Reference (TOR) began.
- Formalization (2020): In June 2020, the WSWC Board approved the first official TOR for the Discipline Councils. These came into effect after the September 2020 AGM, with the 2021 season being the first year under the new structure. The TOR outlined the number of committee members, appointment and election procedures, and Council responsibilities.
- Evolution (2020–2024): Since 2020, elections have been conducted in various ways per the TOR, most often informally at the Council level. In 2024, Wake became the first discipline to implement a formal election process open to all participants of the discipline.
- Recent Updates (2025):
- February 2025: The WSWC Board approved a Sport Council Member Job Description to clarify roles and responsibilities. (Note this document will be revised asap to use the term “Committee in place of Council” and to include reference to the new discipline specific TORs.)
- September 2025: WSWC Voting Members approved revised By-Laws which led to further formalization of discipline committee TORs, election processes etc.
- September 2025: The Board created a Discipline Oversight Committee, first tasked with assisting each discipline in customizing a discipline specific Terms of Reference based on a standardized template.
- September 2025: The Board standardized the election process of Committees to ensure transparency and representation across all disciplines, including the Participants of each discipline will participate in the election of the Committee members.
Discipline Committee Terms of Reference (TORs)
Each WSWC Sport Committee now operates under its own discipline-specific Terms of Reference (TOR), developed through the Discipline Oversight Committee process and approved by the WSWC Board. The TORs outline each committee’s structure, responsibilities, election processes and governance requirements.
What are the responsibilities of the Discipline Committees?
Discipline Committees are responsible for overseeing and supporting their sport’s development in alignment with WSWC’s strategic objectives. Responsibilities include:
- Managing National Team programs, including promotion, funding, partnerships, fundraising, coaching, and training.
- Developing annual and quadrennial strategic plans in line with WSWC’s Strategic Plan.
- Evaluating Domestic and High-Performance programming against established performance objectives.
- Reviewing and updating rules, fees, policies, criteria, procedures, and schedules.
- Planning and executing National Championships, including promotions, funding, partnerships, and fundraising.
- Reviewing and approving results and records, where applicable.
- Supporting sport partnerships, sponsorships, and promotions.
- Contributing to the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) and Long-Term Athlete Development (LTAD) model.
- Engaging in sport-specific advocacy.
THE 2027 IWWF WORLD DISABLED WATERSKI CHAMPIONSHIPS ARE COMING TO SASKATOON
Saskatoon to Host 2027 IWWF World Disabled Waterski Championships
Water Ski and Wakeboard Canada, alongside Water Ski and Wakeboard Saskatchewan and the Saskatoon Waterski Club, will host the 2027 IWWF World Disabled Waterski Championships in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, from July 26 to August 1, 2027.
The international championship will welcome elite adaptive water ski athletes from around the world to compete in slalom, trick, jump, overall and team overall. Athletes, coaches, officials, families and spectators from numerous countries are expected to travel to Saskatoon for the event.
“Hosting the 2027 IWWF World Disabled Waterski Championships in Canada is an incredible opportunity to showcase adaptive water skiing on the world stage,” said Krista Jansen, Executive Director of Water Ski and Wakeboard Canada. “We look forward to welcoming athletes from around the world to Saskatoon and working alongside the Saskatoon Waterski Club to deliver a memorable championship.”
Adaptive water skiing provides athletes with physical or visual impairments the opportunity to compete in water ski disciplines including slalom, trick, jump and overall, using specialized equipment and techniques tailored to their abilities.
Saskatoon Waterski Club has a strong history of hosting high-level competition, including multiple Western Canadian and Saskatchewan Provincial Championships and the WWS Canada Cup professional water ski event in 2024.
Malibu Boats will support the championship as an event partner and the Official Towboat of the 2027 IWWF World Disabled Waterski Championships.
“Saskatchewan has been a world leader in adaptive water skiing for many years, and hosting this event in our province will celebrate the rich history of adaptive water sports with our national team athletes, coaches and volunteers,” said Len Thomas, Executive Director of Water Ski and Wakeboard Saskatchewan.
The championship will bring international attention to Saskatoon while supporting the local economy through accommodations, dining, transportation and tourism.

Have you ever thought about how you can contribute to the growth of towed water sports in Canada? If yes, Water Ski and Wakeboard Canada (WSWC) has an opportunity for you! WSWC is responsible for coordinating, growing and developing towed water sports from initiation to high performance across the country, in collaboration with our Provincial Sport Organizations. WSWC leads through proactive advocacy, strengthened partnerships, effective communications and coordinated leadership.
WSWC is inviting all interested persons to apply for nomination to the WSWC Board of Directors. There are three (3) Director-at-Large positions up for election. Nominations will be accepted until September 14th, 2026 at 8pm ET. The election will take place at the WSWC Annual General Meeting on September 29th, 2026 at 8pm ET, held virtually.

- September 15, 2026 – Nominees Presented to Members (14 days prior to meeting)
- September 29, 2026 at 8pm ET – WSWC Annual General Meeting (Virtual)
Director Eligibility Criteria
- must be a member in good standing with their provincial sport organization
- must be a minimum of 18 years of age
- must have the capacity under law to contract
The questions provided below must be completed in full by both the nominator and nominee, including a resume and jpeg photo of the nominee
Nominee Expectation
It is expected of the nominees that they will:
- Be willing to serve on the WSWC Board of Directors, if elected
- Have read and understood the WSWC Policy Acknowledgement Form, which all individuals will be required to sign if elected
- Have read, understood and agree to the duties and responsibilities as outlined in the Board of Directors Job Description
- Accept the jurisdiction of Abuse Free Sport and sign the required documentation as an Abuse-Free Sport Participant
- Will complete Respect Group Abuse and Harassment training as requested, if elected

- Nominees must be nominated by a current member who holds an individual membership with their provincial organization.
- Nominations must be made directly to our designated scrutineers.
- Incomplete nominations will not be considered.

2026 IWWF WAKE SURF WORLDS – EXPRESSION OF INTEREST
Expression of Interest Open for 2026 IWWF Wakesurf World Championships
Wake Canada is inviting eligible athletes interested in representing Canada at the 2026 IWWF Wakesurf World Championships to submit an Expression of Interest.
The Championships will take place October 9-17, 2026, at Xiang Lake in Hangzhou, China.
Age Divisions
Age eligibility is determined based on the athlete’s age as of December 31, 2026.
- Grom Girls & Boys: U14
- Junior Women & Men: U18
- Open Women & Men: No age restriction
- Masters Women & Men: 30+
- Veterans 1 Women & Men: 40+
Team Canada Selection
Athletes interested in being considered for Team Canada must complete the Expression of Interest and review the published Team Canada Nomination Criteria.
Submission of an Expression of Interest and/or meeting the eligibility requirements does not guarantee selection to Team Canada. Selection will be completed in accordance with the published selection criteria.
Wake Canada has received an extension from the IWWF beyond the original August 13, 2026 deadline. The revised deadline is currently being confirmed and will be updated once finalized.

Skiers who qualify for the Open Finals will have the choice of competing in either the Pick & Choose round or the Open Finals. Skiers may only compete in one.
Open Finals will have a field of six skiers. If fewer than six skiers qualify, the remaining spots will be filled where possible.
The preliminary Open Finals list will be available at registration. Remember that the list may change based on performances during Nationals.

The 2026 Canadian Water Ski Championships are almost here!
Before you arrive at T’s Pond, please review the important participant information below, including on-site registration, the updated competition schedule, Pick & Choose rounds, medal presentations and Saturday’s Banquet.
UPDATED SCHEDULE, PICK AND CHOOSE SECOND ROUND & OPEN FINALS
With a smaller field registered for Nationals this year, an additional Pick & Choose second round has been added to the competition schedule.
Skiers will have the option to choose one discipline (Slalom, Trick or Jump) to compete in for a second round.
Skiers who have qualified for the Open Finals will not be able to compete in the Pick & Choose round, as the Open Finals will serve as their second round.
A preliminary Open Finals list will be available for athletes to view at registration. Please note that this list may change based on performances during Nationals.

SKIER BIOS
All skiers will be asked to complete a short skier bio at registration for our event announcer.
Please take a few minutes to fill it out so our announcer has some information about you to share during the competition.

Event medals will be presented at the end of each competition day for the events completed that day.
Overall medals will be presented at the Banquet on Saturday night.

Government of Ontario Support Helps Bring 2026 Canadian Water Ski Championships to Port Colborne
Port Colborne, ON – August 6, 2026 – Water Ski and Wakeboard Canada is recognizing the support of the Government of Ontario in bringing the 2026 Canadian Water Ski Championships to Port Colborne from August 13-16, 2026.
Funded in part by the Government of Ontario, the national championships will welcome athletes, officials, volunteers, families and spectators from across Canada to T’s Pond at the Greater Niagara Water Ski Club.
The four-day event will feature competition in Slalom, Trick, Jump, and Overall, with athletes competing for national titles across a range of age divisions. The adaptive Canadian Water Ski Championships will also take place alongside the event, providing adaptive athletes with the opportunity to compete for national titles.
Fans will be able to experience all three water ski disciplines throughout the championships, with athletes showcasing incredible skill, speed and precision in Slalom, Trick and Jump competition.
Support from the Government of Ontario is helping Water Ski and Wakeboard Canada and the Greater Niagara Water Ski Club deliver a national championship while attracting visitors to the Port Colborne and Niagara region and supporting local tourism and businesses.

WORLD’S BEST WATER SKIERS SET TO COMPETE AT INAUGURAL ROCKY MOUNTAIN PRO AM IN CALGARY
Some of the world’s best water ski athletes will descend on Calgary this week as the inaugural Rocky Mountain Pro Am takes place July 30 – August 2, 2026 at Predator Bay Water Ski Club.
The event is the second stop of the inaugural 2026-2027 Nautique Water Ski World Series presented by GM Marine, a new professional series bringing together many of the world’s top water ski athletes. The Rocky Mountain Pro Am also marks the first time Calgary has hosted a stop on the series.
Athletes will compete in Slalom, Trick, and Jump across U21, Pro, and Senior divisions. The field features reigning Open and U21 World Champions, world record holders, and many of the sport’s top-ranked athletes, making it a strong professional water ski event held in Canada.
Fans will have the opportunity to watch many of the sport’s biggest names in action, including:
- Jake Abelson (USA) – Trick World Record Holder and reigning U21 World Champion in Men’s Trick
- Jaimee Bull (North Bay, ON) – Reigning three-time World Champion in Women’s Slalom
- Cristhiana De Osma (Peru) – Reigning U21 World Champion in Women’s Slalom
- Matias Gonzalez (Chile) – Reigning World Champion in Men’s Trick
- Regina Jaquess (USA) – Women’s Slalom World Record Holder
- Erika Lang (USA) – Women’s Trick World Record Holder
- Joel Poland (Great Britain) – Overall World Record Holder and reigning World Champion in Men’s Jump

The U21 world champions earned their titles at Predator Bay Water Ski Club during the 2025 IWWF World Under 21 Waterski Championships, making this a return to a venue where they have already experienced international success one year ago.
Spectators can expect four days of world-class competition featuring athletes soaring more than 200 feet in jump, performing gravity-defying flips and spins in trick, and showcasing incredible precision and speed in slalom.
Admission is free, and everyone is welcome to experience one of the premier stops in international water skiing.
Members of the media are welcome throughout the event, including during official practice on Wednesday, July 29 and the afternoon of Thursday, July 30, as well as throughout competition from July 30 through August 2. Athlete interview, photo, and video opportunities will be available.

Register by Sunday, August 2, 2026, to avoid late registration fees.
The championships will take place August 13-16, 2026, at T’s Pond in Port Colborne, Ontario, hosted by the Greater Niagara Water Ski Club. Kelowna’s Gerry Whittaker Wins Two Silver Medals at World Waterski Championships
Kelowna’s Gerry Whittaker earned two silver medals while representing Canada at the 2026 IWWF World Over 35 Waterski Championships.
Held at Predator Bay in Calgary, Alberta, the championships brought together more than 250 athletes from approximately 20 countries to compete in slalom, trick, jump, and overall.
Competing in the Over 70 Men’s division, Whittaker captured the silver medal in Trick before adding a second silver medal in Overall, recognizing the top combined performances across slalom, trick, and jump.
Whittaker’s two-medal performance contributed to one of Canada’s strongest showings at the championships, where Canadian athletes earned 16 individual medals, including three World Championship titles and two Canadian records.

Mont-Tremblant’s Pierre Plouffe Wins Two World Titles at World Waterski Championships

Mont-Tremblant’s Pierre Plouffe delivered an outstanding performance while representing Canada at the 2026 IWWF World Over 35 Waterski Championships, winning two World Championship titles and a silver medal.
Held at Predator Bay in Calgary, Alberta, the championships brought together more than 250 athletes from approximately 20 countries to compete in slalom, trick, jump, and overall. Team Canada finished the event second in the Overall Team standings.
Competing in the Over 70 Men’s division, Plouffe captured the World Championship title in Trick before adding a second World Championship title in Overall, recognizing the top combined performances across slalom, trick, and jump. He also earned the silver medal in Jump, finishing the championships with three individual medals.
In addition to his success on the water, Plouffe served as Team Captain for all Canadian athletes competing at the championships, alongside Team Manager Wendy Durigon. His leadership helped guide Canada’s athletes throughout the week as the team earned 16 individual medals, three World Championship titles, two Canadian records, and a silver medal in the Overall Team standings.
