AWSC CELEBRATES HISTORIC MEDAL AT THE 2023 IWWF DISABLED WORLD WATER SKI CHAMPIONSHIPS

Team Canada has made history at the 2023 IWWF Disabled World Water Ski Championships by securing 2nd place in the Overall Team event. This marks the first time that Canada has clinched a medal in the team competition at the World Championships.

The resilience, commitment, and outstanding performance of our Canadian athletes shone brightly in Elk Grove, California, where the Championships took place from September 11-17, 2023.

Individual medals include:

Gord Tuck (BC): Gord clinched 2nd place in the Standing Men Slalom.

Ashley Baerg (SK): Ashley secured 3rd place in Seated Ladies Slalom, 2nd place in Seated Ladies Jump, and 3rd in Seated Ladies Overall.

Blake Lamontagne (SK): Blake not only placed 2nd in Seated Men Tricks but also set a new pending World Record in the MP3 category.

Phil Kerr (ON): Phil achieved 3rd place in Seated Men Jump.

“It’s a historic moment for Canada, and we couldn’t be prouder of our athletes. Their dedication and hard work have certainly paid off, and this achievement will inspire many future generations of adaptive water skiers in Canada,” remarked a representative from Water Ski and Wakeboard Canada.

The 2023 IWWF Disabled World Water Ski Championships witnessed exceptional talents from around the globe, and Team Canada’s remarkable performance is a testament to the progress and growth of adaptive water skiing in the nation.
