This summer, H2O School on Lake Koocanusa, BC, hosted Ladies Making Waves sessions, an initiative made possible through Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Program funding from Sport Canada and Water Ski and Wakeboard Canada.
These sessions were designed to break barriers and make watersports accessible to women of all skill levels. Over 15 weeks, participants gathered on Monday evenings (6–9 PM) and Sunday mornings (10 AM–1 PM), offering flexible options for a variety of schedules.
Building Skills, Friendships, and Inspiration
The Ladies Making Waves sessions brought together adult women of all ages in a welcoming and supportive environment. Participants not only built skills on the water but also learned by watching and encouraging one another. Being in the boat allowed them to observe, share experiences, and find inspiration from others.
This dynamic created an incredible sense of camaraderie. Many participants made new friendships, and the sessions became a space to connect and grow, both in skill and confidence. Some women attended just once, being introduced to wakesurfing for the first time, while others returned week after week, strengthening their abilities and fostering a vibrant community.
A Positive Impact with Promising Future
The overwhelmingly positive feedback highlighted the transformative power of this program. The discounted pricing enabled women who might not have otherwise been able to participate to get out on the water and experience the joy of wakesurfing.
H2O School is optimistic about continuing this momentum and hopes to bring Ladies Making Waves back next year. The goal is to inspire even more women to experience wakesurfing in an inclusive, empowering, and encouraging environment.
