Water Ski Canada is proud to announce that Burlington’s own Matthew Baxter will represent Canada at the 2024 IWWF Pan American Waterski Championships, taking place from October 8-12, 2024, in Bogota, Colombia. Matthew, who has been competing for four years, is part of the U14 Team and will compete in the slalom, trick, and jump events.
With personal bests of 2@14.25m in slalom, 2180 points in trick, and a 21.2 metre jump, Matthew has worked hard to earn his spot on Team Canada. One of his favourite water ski memories is experiencing his first big headwind off the jump ramp, a moment that deepened his passion for the sport.
Matthew started skiing after his dad made him a deal—if he tried skiing, he could have ice cream. Since then, he’s been hooked on the sport. His future goals include running deep 12 metres in slalom, jumping 100 feet, and tricking over 4000 points.
Matthew is looking forward to competing at the Pan Am Championships and reconnecting with friends from the lake. The Championships will bring together some of the top young water skiers from across the Americas.
