ONTARIO’S JON THURSTON SET TO COMPETE AT THE 2023 IWWF DISABLED WORLD WATER SKI CHAMPIONSHIPS

Adaptive Water Ski Canada Celebrates Jon Thurston’s Participation in the 2023 IWWF Disabled World Water Ski Championships

Adaptive Water Ski Canada proudly announces the participation of National Team Member, Jon Thurston, at the forthcoming 2023 IWWF Disabled World Water Ski Championships. Set to take place from September 11-17, 2023, in Elk Grove, California, Jon will be among the 14 stellar athletes representing Canada.

About Jon Thurston:

From the shores of Dunsford, Ontario, Jon Thurston exemplifies the spirit of overcoming adversity and embracing one’s passion. Competing in the Men’s MP3 division, Jon’s prowess in both the slalom and trick events is marked by a seamless union of technique and determination.

Jon’s journey in water skiing began four years ago, recommended by his Physio assistant. Despite the trials he faced after becoming paraplegic due to a T10 injury 15 years ago, he quickly rose to prominence in the sport. After being introduced to water skiing, a close-knit collaboration with the National Coaching Staff saw him training at a development camp in Florida in 2018.

Significant Achievements:

Jon recently clinched a Gold medal in Slalom at the 2023 Canadian Championships and secured a Silver in the 2022 Canadian Championships.

Memorable Moments:

Beyond his many accolades, Jon treasures representing Canada at the 2019 World Championships in Norway as a pivotal moment in his career.
