Water Ski Canada is thrilled to announce that Sophie Lahaie will be representing Canada on the U17 Team at the 2024 IWWF Pan American Waterski Championships. The event will take place in Bogotá, Colombia, from October 8-12, 2024.
Sophie, hailing from Montreal, Quebec, will compete in the slalom, trick, and jump events during the Championships. In her three years of competing, Sophie has already achieved remarkable success.
Sophie’s skiing career has been highlighted by numerous accomplishments, including being crowned the U14 National Champion and earning a silver medal in U17 Girls at the 2024 Nationals. At the recent U17 World Championships, she made the jump finals, further solidifying her place among top international competitors. One of her goals for the Pan Am Championships is to place in the top 3 or 5 in U17 Girls Jump.
Water skiing has been a major part of Sophie’s life since she started at Benoit Allard’s camp. She remembers her first time going over the ramp and competing at the National Championships, both of which stand out as her favourite memories in the sport. An all-around athlete, Sophie also competes in alpine skiing, showcasing her versatility across sports.
Sophie is looking forward to having fun with friends from across the region and embracing the opportunity to discover the culture of Colombia while competing on the international stage.
