MUSKOKA WATER SKIER STRIKES GOLD AT WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS

Muskoka, ON’s Charlie Ross is the U21 World Champion in Slalom at the 2023 IWWF World U21 Waterski Championships in Chapala, MEX. 

With a preliminary round score of 2.5@10.25m/41off, Charlie Ross was top seed going into the  U21 Men’s Slalom Finals – meaning as the last skier out in the finals he knew exactly the score he needed to win. Charlie needed more than 6 buoys at 10.75m/39off to win the Championships. He rose to the challenge by scoring 1@10.25m/41off to take the win and become World Champion. 

Charlie has a great future ahead of him. He is the current U21 World Record holder with a score of 4@10.25m/41off. This is Charlie’s first gold medal at a World Championships. 

The 2023 IWWF World U21 Waterski Championships is taking place at Bocalaguna in Chapala, MEX from June 14-17, 2023. It brings the best U21 water skiers together from around the world as they compete to be crowned World Champion. 

Charlie trains in Muskoka, ON on Mary Jane Lake at Water Ski Muskoka with his family. Charlie follows in his father and sister’s footsteps of becoming a World Champion. Drew, Charlie’s dad is the 2012 World 35+ Slalom Champion and Neilly, Charlie’s sister is a multiple time World Champion in Slalom and Tricks.

FINAL DAY OF U21 WORLDS COMPLETE

Day 4 and the final day of the 2023 IWWF World U21 Waterski Championships is complete. The day was filled with the finals of all 3 events. Canada was represented in every final with at least one skier, with a total of 7 skiers competing today. 

Charlie Ross was crowned U21 World Champion in slalom and Nellie Allard had another jump PB!

Thank you to all the organizers, officials, parents and coaches for an amazing event.

Saskatoon’s Carter Lucas qualifies for the U21 Men’s Jump Finals at the 2023 IWWF World U21 Waterski Championships in Chapala, MEX. 

With a score of 55.8m/183ft, Carter has punched his ticket into the Finals and will be competing again on Saturday, June 17, 2023. Carter is currently sitting 5th place after the preliminary round, going into finals. He will fight for a spot on the podium in the finals tomorrow.

Quebec’s Nellie Allard qualifies for the U21 Women’s Jump Finals at the 2023 IWWF World U21 Waterski Championships in Chapala, MEX. 

With a score of 41.9m/137ft, Nellie punched her ticket into the Finals and will be competing again on Saturday, June 17, 2023. This was a personal best score for Nellie that has put her in 6th place going into the finals. Nellie has also qualified for the U21 Women’s Slalom Finals that will also be held on Saturday. 

Nellie is the current U17 Women’s World Jump Champion, recently winning the title this past January.

Edmonton’s Sean Kraus qualifies for the U21 Men’s Trick Finals at the 2023 IWWF World U21 Waterski Championships in Chapala, MEX. 

With a score of 7240 points, Sean punched his ticket into the Finals and will be competing again on Saturday, June 17, 2023. Sean was also joined by his younger brother, Evan in the U21 Men’s Trick Prelims. Unfortunately Evan missed out on making the Finals by 2 positions. 

Sean has also qualified for the U21 Men’s Slalom Finals with his younger brother Evan. They will be competing in the Slalom Finals on Saturday, June 17, 2023.

DAY 3 OF U21 WORLDS COMPLETE

Day 3 of the 2023 IWWF World U21 Waterski Championships is complete. The day saw the end of the Trick and Jump preliminary rounds. Three Canadian skiers qualified for Finals in Men’s Trick, Women’s Jump, and Men’s Jump. Sean Kraus punched his ticket into the U21 Men’s Trick Finals to start the day off. Nellie Allard jumped a personal best score to solidify her position in the U21 Women’s Jump Finals. To finish the day off, Carter Lucas jumped his way into the U21 Men’s Jump Finals. 

Tomorrow will bring finals for all three events. The day will start at 8am (MT) / 10am (ET) with the U21 Women Slalom Final, followed by the Men and then the Trick Finals and Jump Finals. Make sure you tune into the webcast for an exciting day of finals!

Montreal’s Hannah Stopnicki qualifies for the U21 Women’s Trick Finals at the 2023 IWWF World U21 Waterski Championships in Chapala, MEX. 

With a score of 5740 points, Hannah punched her ticket into the Finals and will be competing again on Saturday, June 17, 2023. Hannah is currently sitting in 6th place after prelims and going into the finals. Hannah will be joined in the Women’s Trick Finals with fellow Canadian Team Member, Megan Pelkey.. 

Hannah is the current U17 Women’s World Trick Champion, recently winning the title this past January.

Alberta’s Megan Pelkey qualifies for the U21 Women’s Trick Finals at the 2023 IWWF World U21 Waterski Championships in Chapala, MEX. 

With a score of 5440 points, Megan punched her ticket into the Finals and will be competing again on Saturday, June 17, 2023. Megan is currently sitting 8th place heading into the finals. Megan will be joined in the Women’s Trick Finals with fellow Canadian Team Member, Hannah Stopnicki. 

In addition to the Trick Finals, Megan will be competing in the U21 Women’s Jump Prelims on Friday, June 16. 2023. She has already competed in the U21 Women’s Slalom Prelims scoring 2@12m/35off.

Charlie Ross skied to top seed in the preliminary round of the Championships with a score of 2.5@10.25m/41off. Charlie’s prelims score was just half a buoy away from the U21 World Championships Record, currently at 3@10.25m/41off. 

Charlie will ski in the U21 Men’s Slalom Finals on Saturday, June 17, 2023. Charlie will be joined in the finals with fellow Canadians, Sean and Evan Kraus.

Alberta’s brother duo, Sean and Evan Kraus qualify for the U21 Men’s Slalom Finals at the 2023 IWWF World U21 Waterski Championships in Chapala, MEX. 

Sean and Evan Kraus have punched their tickets to the Men’s Slalom Finals at the 2023 IWWF World U21 Waterski Championships, hosted in Chapala, MEX from June 14-17, 2023. 

In the preliminary round, Sean scored 5.5@11.25m/38off to secure his spot into the finals while his younger brother, Evan scored 5@11.25m/38off to secure his position in the finals. Sean and Evan are joined by fellow Canadian, Charlie Ross in the finals. The finals will take place on Saturday, June 17, 2023. 

Both Sean and Evan will be competing in the Trick Preliminary round tomorrow to try to punch their ticket into the U21 Men’s Trick Finals as well.

Day 2 of the 2023 IWWF World U21 Waterski Championships is complete. It was filled with Slalom, Trick and Jump Prelims with 6 Canadians qualifying for the Finals. Nellie Allard punched her ticket into the Women’s Slalom Finals while Evan Kraus, Sean Kraus and Charlie Ross qualified for the Men’s Slalom Finals. In Trick, Megan Pelkey and Hannah Stopnicki punched their ticket to the Women’s Trick Finals. 

Tomorrow will complete all the preliminary rounds of the event starting with Men’s Trick followed by Women’s and Men’s Jump. The event will start at 8am (MT) / 10am (ET).

DAY 1 OF U21 WORLDS COMPLETE

Day 1 at the 2023 IWWF World U21 Waterski Championships is complete. It was a day of slalom and trick prelims for Team Canada.

Carter Lucas (SK) and Darah Lachance (NS) took to the water in Slalom prelims while Carter and Nellie Allard (QC) skied in Trick prelims.

 

Carter slalomed 3.5@12m/35off and tricked 2150pts.

Darah slalomed 0@13m/32off.

Nellie tricked 3091pts.

 

Tomorrow the Slalom prelims will finish for both the Men and the Women and Trick prelims will finish for the Women while Jump prelims are just getting started.The event will start at 8am (MT) / 10am (ET). Canada will have 8 skiers competing in all 3 events.

The first day of the 2023 U21 World Water Ski Championships is here. The event will start at 8am (MT) / 10am (ET) tomorrow (Wednesday) in Chapala, MEX.

Team Canada will have 10 skiers competing throughout the week. Tomorrow will start with Men’s Series 5 & 4 Slalom Prelims.
