With immense pride and enthusiasm, Water Ski and Wakeboard Canada (WSWC) is thrilled to announce Alberta’s Braeson Schacher as the recipient of the 2023 WSWC Male Adaptive Development Athlete of the Year. As the top male team score contributor at the World Championships, he has amassed a staggering 2407 points, representing an impressive 22.5% of Canada’s total team score. About Braeson Ty Schacher
A 27-year-old dynamo from Lethbridge, Alberta, Braeson’s journey in adaptive water skiing is nothing short of inspiring. Facing a bilateral below-knee amputation in 2014, Braeson’s indomitable spirit shone through as he redirected his energy, diving into water skiing headfirst. In just three years, he has risen as a promising athlete in the community.
Introduced to the sport by snow ski buddies, Braeson’s affection for water skiing is evident both in his participation and his coaching endeavors. He’s more than an athlete; he’s a mentor, guiding young aspirants on their own skiing journeys. Away from the waters, he continues to impress with his prowess in CrossFit, wearing the badge of ‘Fittest Adaptive Athlete in Canada’.
This September, the world will witness Braeson’s skills at the IWWF Championships. His journey from a challenging amputation to a distinguished adaptive athlete is a beacon of inspiration, underlining the message that passion and determination can help conquer any challenge.

In 2022, Braeson was honoured with the title of the WSWC Adaptive Male Development Athlete of the Year. Beyond water skiing, he showcased his tenacity in the CrossFit Open, clinching the title of the Fittest Adaptive Athlete in Canada.
