Update on the Wake Canada Council Election: A New Election is Coming
The recent Wake Canada Council election has provided us with an opportunity to reflect and improve how we engage with our community. First, we want to acknowledge and apologize for the lapse in communication during the earlier election this fall.
After a thorough review, we determined that several challenges impacted the election’s validity, including:
- Ineligible voting
- Incomplete email lists
- Lack of clear communication and promotion.
In light of these challenges, we are committed to ensuring a fair and transparent process that includes as many eligible Wake Canada members as possible. To that end, we will be re-running the election in December.
What’s Next?
We are currently confirming candidates for the re-run of the election. Once this process is complete:
- Candidates will be announced here on the Wake Canada blog on December 4, 2024.
- The election will take place from December 16–23, 2024, using the ElectionBuddy platform, chosen for its secure, anonymous voting features and user-friendly design.
- Election results will be announced the first week of January.
Key Improvements for the Re-Run Election
To ensure a better election process, we are implementing the following improvements:
- Compiling a more complete list of eligible voters: This will ensure that the election is as inclusive and fair as possible.
- Secure and anonymous voting: Each voter will receive a unique ID to ensure fairness, and the ElectionBuddy platform will guarantee privacy.
- Clear communication and promotion: We will be sharing regular updates through social media and the Wake Canada blog to keep you informed.
