Water Ski & Wakeboard Canada – Sport Council Elections Process

Water Ski and Wakeboard Canada (WSWC) recognizes the following five sport Councils:

-Adaptive
-Barefoot
-Show Ski
-Wake Sports (Wakeboard, Wake Park, Wakesurf, Wakeskate)
-Water Ski

The role of the Councils is to support and advance the growth and progression of the sport. The WSWC Sport Council Terms of Reference, outlines the roles and responsibilities of the Sport Councils and provides an overarching framework for how the Sport Councils operate within WSWC. Each of the Sport Councils include appointed and elected positions. The elected positions are open to nomination from the membership of Water Ski & Wakeboard Canada. Appointed positions are to be filled as determined by the Sport Councils. All Sport Council positions are for a term of two (2) years.

The Sport Councils composition are as follows:

As per the Sport Council Terms of Reference, those eligible to vote for the Council elections will be those individuals (18 years of age and older) with a full individual or family membership type with their Provincial Sport Organization, who have identified the sport as their primary discipline and are registered in the WSWC membership platform. Individuals with event memberships will not be eligible to vote in the Sport Council elections.

 

Nominations

Nomination Guidelines:

-Nominees must be nominated by a current full individual or family member in good standing with their Provincial Sport Organization. Event members are not eligible to make nominations.
-Nominations must be made through the online nomination form, as distributed by WSWC.
-Nomination form must be completed in full and include a jpeg photo of the nominee.
-The Nomination process will be open for a minimum of two weeks.
-Required Nomination Information is outlined in Appendix 1 (below).

Eligibility Criteria

-Nominees must be a current full individual or family member in good standing with their Provincial Sport Organization. Event members are not eligible for nomination.
-Nominees must be a minimum of 18 years of age.
-Nominees must have the capacity under law to contract.

Nominee Expectations

It is expected of the nominees that they will:

-Be willing to serve on the WSWC Sport Council, if elected.
-Have read and understood the WSWC Policy Acknowledgement Form, which you will be required to sign, if elected.
-Have read, understood and agree to the terms as outlined in the WSWC Sport Council Terms of Reference, which you will be required to sign, if elected.
-Will complete Respect Group Maltreatment (Abuse & Harassment) training as requested, if elected.

Public Notifications

-WSWC will publicly publish the names and bios of all eligible Nominees upon receipt of fully and properly completed Nomination forms.
-The public notifications will be made through WSWC social media and websites.

 

Election Process

Notification

-An email will be sent to all full individual and family members in the WSWC membership platform two weeks prior to the opening of Nominations for elections.
-An email will be sent to all full individual and family members in the WSWC membership platform on the opening day of Nominations.
-WSWC will post public notifications through it’s social media outlets and on WSWC websites announcing the opening of the Nominations process.
-An email will be sent to all full individual and family members in the WSWC membership platform on the opening day of the Voting period.
-WSWC will post public notifications through it’s social media outlets and on WSWC websites announcing the opening of the Voting process.

Voting

-All voting will be conducted online via a secure voting platform provided by WSWC.
-The voting platform will provide a list of the Nominees for each Sport Council and any biographical information provided.
-All full individual and family members in the WSWC membership platform will be eligible for one vote for the Sport Council corresponding to that individuals identified primary discipline in the platform.
-The voting period will commence within one week of the closing of Nominations and will remain open for a period of two (2) weeks.
-Votes will be tabulated by WSWC staff.
-Election results will be announced and published within 5 days of the closing of the polls.
