Water Ski and Wakeboard Canada is thrilled to announce that Mathis Larivière, from Les Cèdres, Québec, will be competing at the 2024 IWWF Open, U23, and Junior World Barefoot Water Ski Championships in Auburndale, Florida, from October 5-12, 2024. Mathis, a member of the U23 Canadian Team, will compete in the Slalom, Trick, and Jump events.
With five years of experience, Mathis has already made a significant mark in the sport. His personal bests include 8.53 in slalom, 1570 points in trick, and a jump distance of 10.9 meters. His competitive resume boasts three Canadian Junior Championship titles (2019, 2021, 2022) and being the back-to-back Water Ski and Wakeboard Canada Junior Barefoot Athlete of the Year in 2021 and 2022.
Mathis’ journey in barefooting began by watching his father on the water and eventually learning from him. Today, his favourite barefooting memory is spending time on the lake at sunset with his father and brother. For the future, Mathis’ goal is to qualify for the Open Team, continuing his rise in the barefoot world.
Outside of barefooting, Mathis is a business management student at an English college, despite his French background. He looks forward to reuniting with barefooters from around the globe at the World Championships, where the sport’s community spirit shines brightest.
Mathis would like to extend his gratitude to Popeye’s Supplements Quebec for their support and sponsorship as he pursues his World Championship dreams.
