WSWC LAUNCHES SPRING FUNDRAISER

Water Ski and Wakeboard Canada Launches Spring Fundraiser

Water Ski and Wakeboard Canada (WSWC) is launching its Spring Online Silent Auction and Donation Drive from April 1-10, 2026, as part of a national effort to stabilize and strengthen towed water sports across Canada during a period of significant funding reductions.

This year’s fundraiser comes at a pivotal time for the organization. In the past year, WSWC has experienced substantial cuts to its funding. These reductions have created real and immediate pressures on the organization’s ability to fully support athlete development, grassroots programming, coaching and officiating education, national events, and international representation. Without supplemental revenue, these funding losses will directly limit programming capacity, reduce available resources for participants and clubs, and place additional financial strain on athletes and families.

While WSWC continues to manage resources responsibly and prioritize essential programming, community support is now more important than ever. The Spring Fundraiser is a critical initiative designed to help offset these financial shortfalls and protect the long-term health of the sport in Canada.

Sustaining Towed Water Sports Across Canada

Funds raised through the fundraiser will directly support:

  • Each participating discipline’s sport development initiatives
  • Athletes development pathways
  • Coaching and officiating education
  • National events and programming
  • National team training and international competition
  • Organizational stability during this period of reduced funding

From introducing new participants to supporting athletes competing on the world stage, this fundraiser plays an important role in strengthening the entire system.

To support this initiative, WSWC is currently seeking donations of auction items from individuals, clubs, and businesses. The deadline to contribute auction items is March 23, 2026. Donated items may include:

  • Industry equipment, merch, coaching, and/or water time
  • Travel or accommodation packages
  • Sporting goods and equipment
  • Event tickets
  • Professional services
  • Unique experiences
  • Gift cards

Donate an auction item HERE

All donors will be recognized as supporters of Water Ski and Wakeboard Canada and the broader towed water sports community.

In addition to donating items, supporters can contribute by promoting the auction within their networks, placing bids once the auction opens on April 1, or making a direct monetary donation at any time during the campaign. Every bid placed and every dollar donated will directly support programming across Canada.

Water Ski and Wakeboard Canada remains committed to delivering quality programs and opportunities despite financial challenges. The Spring Fundraiser represents an opportunity for the entire community to rally together and ensure that towed water sports continue to thrive across the country.

For more information about donating an auction item before March 23, 2026, or participating in the auction from April 1-10, 2026, please contact Taryn Grant at taryn@wswc.ca.

The Future of Canadian Sport Is at a Crossroads

Canada’s National Sport System is in crisis. Three recent CBC articles shine a light on the growing financial challenges facing sport organizations across the country — challenges that Water Ski Wakeboard Canada (WSWC) also faces.

We encourage our community to take a few minutes to read:
1.  Why the Canadian sport system finds itself in financial disarray
2.  Canada’s sport funding crisis reaching a breaking point
3.  How Canadian sports can begin to climb out of financial crisis

These articles highlight a reality that many of us in the sport community already feel — limited funding, growing costs, and the challenge of sustaining programs that inspire the next generation of athletes.

At WSWC, we are committed to continuing our mission: developing, promoting, and delivering towed water sport opportunities for all Canadians. But we can’t do it alone.

Be part of the solution.
Your involvement — whether as a donor, volunteer, or advocate — directly supports the athletes, coaches, and communities that make our sport thrive.

Over 70 Riders Make Waves at 2025 Canadian Wakesurf & Foiling Nationals

The 2025 Canadian National Wakesurf & Foiling Nationals, presented by SWS Marine Group, were held in southeast British Columbia over the weekend.

“We were excited to welcome over 70 riders from as far west as Vancouver Island and as far east as Ontario competing over two days,” says one of the event organizers, Loree Duczek.  “New this year was the addition of a foiling division, and with bigger divisions and more athletes taking part, it is so good to see this event continuing to grow.”

The youngest rider was 5-year old Beckem Hantke of Lethbridge, Alberta who participated in the Junior Boys Division – one of 16 divisions run Saturday and Sunday.

Bailey Rush of Ponoka, Alberta took first in Pro Female Skim, with Lacombe, Alberta’s Morgan Bateman taking silver and Fernie, BC’s Caroline Villeneuve taking third.  Rush, a dominant dual rider who recently won the gold medal at the World Games in China, went on to take gold and the National Championship in Pro Women’s Surf. Bateman, another strong dual rider, took silver and Timmy McNamee of Perth, Ontario capturing bronze.

Cranbrook, BC’s Dagen Duczek took his second Pro Men’s Canadian Championship narrowly edging out his brother Ryder in a battle for first and second while their long-time mentor Isaac Hockley, also of Cranbrook, laid down a strong run to take the bronze medal.  Hockley and fellow rider Jake Lamb of Kelowna, BC entertained the crowd during their runs in the Foil Division, with both riders attempting backflips and big carving, pumping and airs.  In the end, Hockley edged past Lamb to take the gold.

“One of the special things about this event is the way it brings families and the surf community together.  It was so good to see so many families taking part.  From siblings in the same division, to siblings in different divisions and entire families competing, it speaks to the family nature of this sport. Beyond that, we had fans on shore and on the water cheering riders on, an amazing live performance from Lord Knows Band, giveaways, demo rides and all kinds of fun that added to the stoke of the weekend,” adds Duczek.  “None of this would have been possible without our incredible sponsors, including our title sponsor SWS Marine Group.  The entire weekend was amazing and we want to acknowledge all the sponsors, supporters, athletes, families, friends and fans that contributed to making the 2025 Nationals such a success.”

The Canadian Wakesurf and Foiling Nationals, presented by SWS Marine Group, were held at Koocanusa Village on the shores of Lake Koocanusa September 6-7 and capped off the 2025 competitive season.

WATER SKI AND WAKEBOARD CONCLUDES AT THE JR. PAN AM GAMES

Canadian Water Ski and Wakeboard Athletes Conclude with Strong Performances at the 2025 Jr. Pan Am Games

August 21, 2025 – Asunción, Paraguay – Team Canada wrapped up an impressive showing in water ski and wakeboard at the Asunción 2025 Junior Pan American Games, highlighted by five podium finishes and strong performances.

Jake Chambers Secures Bronze in Men’s Overall

British Columbia’s Jake Chambers capped off his Games with a bronze medal in Men’s Overall. Entering the finals in third position, Jake delivered consistent results across all three events. He narrowly missed a personal best in Slalom, scoring 1@11m/38off, before posting 6490 points in Trick and jumping 50.7m/166ft to solidify his place on the podium. This medal adds to the bronze he earned yesterday in Men’s Jump, marking a successful Games for Jake.

Kate Pinsonneault Finishes Fourth in Women’s Overall

British Columbia’s Kate Pinsonneault finished just shy of the podium with a strong 4th place in Women’s Overall. Despite an early fall in Slalom (1@14m/28off), she rebounded with a standout Trick performance of 3950 points, just shy of her new personal best set yesterday at 4050 points. Pinsonneault then led the field in Jump with the longest distance of the day at 43.2m/142ft. Her combined performances placed her fourth overall in the competition.

Jakob Taylor Rides to Fifth in Wakeboard Finals

British Columbia’s Jakob Taylor represented Canada in the Men’s Wakeboard Finals, finishing in 5th place against a talented international field. His finals ride followed strong showings in the qualifying round earlier this week.

Canadian Medal Highlights

Canada leaves the Jr. Pan Am Games water ski and wakeboard events with a total of five medals:

Charlie Ross (ON) – Gold, Men’s Slalom

Kate Pinsonneault (BC) – Gold, Women’s Jump

Jake Chambers (BC) – Bronze, Men’s Jump and Men’s Overall

Hannah Stopnicki (QC) – Bronze, Women’s Trick

Building on U21 Worlds Success

All four Canadian water skiers; Charlie, Kate, Jake, and Hannah, competed earlier this month at the 2025 IWWF World U21 Waterski Championships in Calgary, AB, where they contributed to Canada’s silver medal in the Overall Team Event. Their Jr. Pan Am Games performances build on that momentum, while a couple athletes now turn their focus to the 2025 Open World Championships next week.

About the 2025 Jr. Pan Am Games

The Asunción 2025 Junior Pan American Games are being held in Asunción, Paraguay, from August 9 to 23, 2025, featuring more than 4,000 athletes under the age of 23 from 41 countries competing across 28 sports and 42 disciplines. Team Canada is represented by 157 athletes competing in 22 sports. The Water Ski and Wakeboard events took place from August 18 to 21 at Lago Manene.

Canadian athletes once again demonstrated their skill, resilience, and promise for the future on the international stage, proudly representing the maple leaf in Paraguay.
